Who Lessons Are For
Eelyn welcomes students of different ages, levels, and musical goals. Whether a student is beginning piano for the first time, continuing previous study, or looking for more focused guidance, lessons are adapted to the individual.
Young Beginners
Lessons for young beginners focus on building comfort at the piano, developing healthy habits, and introducing musical concepts in a clear, age-appropriate way. The goal is to create a strong foundation while helping the student feel successful and excited to continue learning.
School-Age & Teen Students
Lessons for school-age and teen students are shaped around each student’s experience, interests, and goals. Instruction may include repertoire, technique, sight-reading, theory, performance preparation, examinations, or competitions as appropriate to the individual.
Adult Students
Adult students are welcome whether they are beginning for the first time, returning after time away, or pursuing a specific musical goal. Lessons are paced thoughtfully and tailored to the music and skills the student would most like to develop.
What Students Learn
Piano lessons develop more than the ability to play individual pieces. Students build a broad set of musical skills that help them become increasingly confident and independent musicians.
Musical Foundations
Students develop skills in note reading, rhythm, technique, theory, ear training, and sight-reading. These areas are integrated into lessons so that students understand the music they are playing rather than simply learning one piece at a time.
Repertoire & Musicianship
Repertoire is selected with each student’s level, interests, and goals in mind. Students learn to listen critically, make musical decisions, practice effectively, and develop the skills needed to approach new music with increasing independence.

Successful piano study is a partnership. Each person has an important role in helping the student make steady progress and develop increasing independence.
Teacher
Provides thoughtful instruction, clear assignments, appropriate repertoire, and guidance on how to practice effectively.
Student
Comes ready to learn, practices consistently between lessons, and gradually takes greater responsibility for their own musical progress.
Parent
Helps establish a regular practice routine, provides encouragement and an appropriate practice environment, and communicates with the teacher when questions or challenges arise.
Weekly lessons provide direction, but much of a student’s growth happens during the days between the lessons. When teacher, student and parent work together, students are more likely to make steady progress, develop confidence, and enjoy the process of becoming musicians.
The level of parent involvement naturally changes as students grow in age, experience, and independence.
Beyond the Music
Learning an instrument teaches students how to work toward something that takes time. Through regular practice, problem-solving, and working through challenges, students develop persistence, independence, and confidence while experiencing the satisfaction of steady progress.
